Summer 2002
Brazillian producer, musician and sound engineer Qai-fi, AKA Quincas Moreira goes on an two-month tour of Europe as bassist for the legendary Trio Mocotó, the inventors of the Samba-Rock style, in the late 60’s. Qai-fi takes along his new laptop studio-in-a-backpack, and utilizes his days off composing and recording songs. He uses gadgets and gizmos picked up during the tour and the band’s instruments in hotel rooms, constructing an album he would later call “Quincaillerie.”

This unfinished album, currently in its beta 0.2 version, was never released, circling around in homemade copies for two years while Qai-fi matured the concept and gained experience playing with numerous top brazillian artists.

Late 2004

The band, Quinquilharia Samba Punk, finally starts rehearsing, unifying three concepts:
- The songs of Quincaillerie
- An imagined tougher blend of Samba and Rock dubbed “Samba Punk”
- The idea of performing classic, well known Rock and Hip-Hop songs translated into this Samba-Punk aesthetic.
The band has since been performing in scattered places from São Paulo to New York, pleasantly surprising its audiences with its particular blend of styles.

“Samba Punk” gets dropped from the band name, freeing it from aesthetic obligations and setting it on it’s natural course.
